The third successive CRY Chess Tournament organized by Friends of CRY Club in association with Western Union Money Transfer concluded with an enlivening closing ceremony on 30th March 2007 in a splendidly arranged venue at Indian English Academy School (IEAS), Salmiya.

:: CRYCHESS - 2007 WINNERS



The event commenced at 8 am with an inspiring inaugural speech by Rev. Fr.Tony D'Souza SDB, the IEAS Director. A record number of 145 children participated in the event in 5 different age groups named Ruby Red,Emerald Green, Blue Sapphire, Yellow Topaz, and White Opal. FIDE laws were followed and matches were conducted in Swiss Round format.Pairing, and results were computer generated with seasoned and experienced officials supervising the event.

The Varshini & Praveen Memorial Trophy for the first prize winners were awarded to Manuel Andrade (Ruby Red ), Astrid Jerald (Emerald Green), David Mathew K. (Blue Sapphire), Aswin Suresh Krishnan (Yellow Topaz), Chandim Chatterjee (White Opal). Second Prize winners were awarded with Western Union Trophies to: Neethi Arunachalam (Ruby Red), Santosh Kalyan (Emerald Green), Vinaya Khandelwal (Blue Sapphire), Cyriac Sebastian Mattam (Yellow Topaz), Murtaza Bedawala (White Opal). All participants were awarded Medals sponsored by Siemens and certificates from CRY Headquarters. The prizes distribution and closing ceremony was attended by dignitaries including .Mrs.Vangie, Marketing Manager - WESTERN UNION, Mrs & Mr. Carl-Otto Klermund, General Manager - SIEMENS, Mrs & Mr Herbert Klausner, Power
Control Division - SIEMENS.

The popular Jumble sale "Buy for CRY", "CRY Kids Corner", "Parents Corner" and Food Stall were the other attractions of the event. CRY Chess Tournament 2007 is organized by FOCC - Volunteers of CRY (Child Rights & You) every year with the objective of creating awareness of deprived children and involving communities in social service activities. This year's event was sponsored by WESTERN UNION MONEY TRANSFER and co-sponsored by SIEMENS. The venue was sponsored by IEAS.

The Trophies for the winners were gifted by the parents of Late Varshini who was the winner of previous CRY Chess Tournaments. FOCC is pleased to receive such a enthusiastic response from the parents of the participating children and the sponsors. Faiz Hanif Shaikh V. Siva Prakash and Jonathan Vinay were awarded as young participants.

Presentations on CRY activities undertaken in India was made to the parents and CRY leaflets were distributed. The success of the tournament is positively attributed to the FOCC Volunteers and friends of CRY in Kuwait and to popularity of the chess game among the children.
